Review of Black Love White Lies By Genesis Woods

Book Description:

Audrielle Freeman hasn’t really been dealt a fair hand when it comes to love. With an ex who she assumes left her for the next, a mother who is always on her about her weight, and a current boyfriend whom she finds in an awkward position on their anniversary, she’s still optimistic that true love will happen for her one day. After having her heart broken for the last time, she decides to take a small break from men and just focus on her thriving shoe store she owns with her sister Ariana.

Cairo Broussard wasn’t looking for love, but at the same time, was open for it to happen if it came. He never thought in a million years that he’d practically fall in love at first sight after walking into the custom shoe store one of his players told him about. When his ex-girlfriend Alexandra Tate offers him a proposition to manipulate his inheritance, will he marry her for the money or will he follow his heart and be the man that Audrielle needs him to be?

Watch what happens and unfolds when your back is up against the wall and people from your past pop up to either make your life better or ruin it all together. Black love is a very strong and powerful thing, but with white lies in the mix, who knows what will happen?

My Thoughts:

As soon as I picked this book up, I could not put it down. This is one of my favorite books that I've read in 2017. The drama, the romance, and the suspense are all neatly packaged into one. This book is ultimately about a woman named Audrielle who has a chance meeting with a man named Cairo. She meets him at the shoe store she runs with her sister.

They end up sleeping together and Cairo spends the night at her home. But things quickly escalate the next morning. Cairo gets angry and storms out when Audrielle's estranged husband, Eli, shows up on her doorstep even though they do not live together. Not only that but Cairo has a crazy ex-girlfriend named Alex who's obsessed with him and all things money.

One of the other things that stood out to me the most in this book, besides the love that Cairo and Audrielle share (& the people who tried to keep them apart), is how much her mother talks about her weight. Her mother believes that if she loses weight she'll be able to win her estranged husband, Eli, back. She (along with Audrielle's aunt) even went so far as to pay a man, Antonio, to date her daughter in an effort to boost her confidence and to help her lose weight. On top of that Antonio cheated on Audrielle with her Aunt! Messy. Drama.

Who does that?! If you ask me, her mother has some issues deep within herself that she has never resolved. As if being skinny or thin will make all of one's problems disappear.
This is the first book that I have read from this author, and it will not be my last. I have purchased part 2. Overall, it was a really great book. I loved the author's writing style and the flow of the book. Will be posting a review for part 2 very soon.
